Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to create a Shepskey account?

Choose the country where your cattle are kept, then register with your WhatsApp number, email address and PIN. Verify your WhatsApp number with an OTP before using protected features.

Why do I need to create a kraal first?

Cattle records belong to a kraal. Its district and location keep each animal connected to the right community and support ownership transfers.

Which photos should I add for each animal?

You can add front, left side, right side and six close-up identification photos. The close-up photos are used for identification; side and front photos help people visually confirm the animal.

How does cattle identification work?

Find Owner searches within 48 km of the selected location, plus lost cattle in the selected country. A photo match is decision support, not legal proof of ownership by itself.

Can I search outside my local area?

Yes. Find Owner searches within 48 km of the selected location, plus cattle currently reported lost in the same country.

How do I list cattle on the marketplace?

Choose a cattle record that's active, verified, has full access and has been marked identifiable, then submit the price, currency, negotiability and reason for sale. Your signed-in session is enough to confirm the listing β€” no OTP is required. Cattle under an unresolved registration review cannot be listed.

How are ownership transfers completed?

A transfer moves cattle from the current kraal to the new owner's kraal. The cattle must be active, verified, identifiable and have full access to start a transfer. For a change of owner, both the previous owner and new owner must confirm with OTP codes before the transfer is completed, and the new owner's Village Head needs to verify it again afterward.

What happens when cattle are lost or spotted?

Owners can report registered cattle as lost. Any registered user can create a spotted report with a colour and notes β€” it is filed against the village registered to their account, and no location, photo or cattle record is needed β€” and Shepskey can notify nearby users and show active nearby reports.

Can another person verify my cattle?

Yes. Once its front, left side and right side photos are captured, send a verification request straight to your village's Village Head β€” there's no picker, it's always the Village Head registered for your own village. They confirm it from their signed-in account β€” no OTP is required β€” and verified cattle lock key display photos to protect the integrity of the record.

Will I receive alerts?

Shepskey supports in-app notifications, unread counts and Firebase push tokens for events such as lost or spotted cattle, cattle listed for sale and verification requests.

Why is sale or transfer unavailable for my newly registered animal?

A possible match to a lost animal may have created a private registration review. This is a lead for the Shepskey team to check, not an accusation. The cattle remains usable normally, but sale and transfer are paused until the review is resolved.
